In Honor and Memory

Kay Adams. May 2, 1920 - June 6, 2011.

My mother died this morning at my sister’s home.  She  had been in declining health, but apparently had a massive heart attack and died quickly.  Betsy and I had seen her (and Dad) on Thursday and I talked with her on the phone Saturday.  She sounded very chipper and in good spirits.  She had just had some ice cream before I called, which was her favorite snack.

The feature of Mom that most people commented on was her smile.  When my parents moved to Tennessee, the children in their new neighborhood called her the “Smile Lady”.

Now she’s smiling in heaven — it must be a brighter place today.

Hi George, I am a new friend of Betsy’s blog and for some reason cannot respond to her email. I did post a comment on her blog, but would like to say to you that my husband Terry and I are keeping you in our hearts at this time. Praise the Lord your mom and dad just celebrated 71 years together! What a testimony that is. My mom passed away just before her 90th birthday two years ago. Her favorite snack was ice cream too.
Bet your mom’s smile is just lighting up heaven today as she sees family and friends again that passed on before she did.

Dear George and Betsy, Our heartfelt sympathy in the sudden death of your dear mom. So glad you were still there with her and talked to her last week. I know you will treasure all your special memories of her in your heart to share with all your loved ones. Seems to me that in the first year after my mom’s passing, we often said, “Oh, mom would have loved this” or “Remember when mom used to say or do this?” May the comfort that only the Lord can give, be your strength! What a lovely photo of your beautiful mom!

Such a lovely relationship your Mom and Dad must have had. I will be keeping your Dad in my prayers as well. I can’t begin to know what it would be like to lose someone after 71 years together. May God bestow his blessings on all of you.
You chose a beautiful image of your Mother to share. Her smile is indeed lovely.
    Take care my dear friend.

I am so very sorry. Ninety one seems a long time but it is never enough. You have been such a good son keeping your parents close through visits and phone calls. Your Dad must be suffering so.
My heart is with all of you in this painful time.

What a lovely tribute to the smile lady. A lovely way to be remembered. You have been a good son taking care of your parents and it was good that you had spoken to her recently.I think you may have the wrong birthdate under the photo. It only makes her 71 not 91. My thoughts are with you at this time

George & Betsy, so sorry to hear about Mrs. Adams, I believe she was the sweetest lady we have ever known. Mr & Mrs Adams were some of the first people we met at HUMC and always made us feel so welcome.
They were such a loving couple, he was always right by her side. And again, her smile was the first thing you noticed about her. And their love for each other was next. You both have our deepest sympathy.
    Much love, the Sawyers
