Watery Wednesday #154: Biltmore Reflections

Sky and clouds reflected in a pool in the Italian Garden, Biltmore Estate, Asheville, North Carolina. August 5, 2011.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

While taking pictures of some of the water lilies in Biltmore’s Italian Garden (you can see that HERE), I noticed this reflection of the sky in the water of one of the pools.  I couldn’t resist trying to capture the reflection (above).

A little later I noticed a reflection of the house in the water.  It looked pretty good even if it was crowded among the lily pads and other aquatic plants.

I found a spot with a little more clear water and was able to get  more of the house in the reflection.

Note:  I’ve tried to make the pictures larger when they are clicked and double-clicked.  Let me know what you think.

The pictures get MUCH bigger, i LOVE it!!! Beautiful reflections, but now that I can see more, I will be asking more. What is that sticking out of the water in the last picture. It’s in the foreground on the left. At first I thought it was the nose of a fish, but on enlarging, it looks like a butterfly.

Great photos George – especially when seen enlarged.
What are those strange straw-like round things, no doubt not straw plates but some type of lily???
I have never seen those “plants” or whatever before.
They remind me of the platted fibre like plates that you could buy at the native markets in Papua New Guinea. These plates were very handy for serving savouries on in PNG. Of course they are green when made but that colour changes to brown with age.
    Interesting post!

Very nice photographs, George. The landscaping around the Biltmore never gets old, does it?

What a perfect pond. The water is soooo flat that the reflections are excellent. I like the blooming lilies.

Also, you moon shots a pretty darn good. MB
